Medicare Advantage

The best of both worlds

Medicare Advantage is like Medicare, except with everything included in one place. In fact, it covers everything that Original Medicare does – plus more.

Medicare Advantage offers benefits such as:

  • Inpatient coverage. Medicare Advantage covers you when you’re hospitalized, including the services provided in the hospital.
  • Outpatient coverage. This policy keeps the copayments low. This applies to what you get with any healthcare facility where you aren’t taken in as an inpatient. It covers preventive services like screenings and exams, and helps reduce durable medical equipment costs.
  • Prescription drugs. Some Medicare Advantage plans make it so that you don’t have to enroll in a separate prescription drug policy.
  • Hearing treatments. This is not featured in traditional Medicare plans. But with Medicare Advantage, you can get reduced costs for hearing aids and exams.
  • Dental care. Your teeth are important, and Medicare Advantage helps you keep them without the issue of paying too much out-of-pocket.
  • Vision. Routine eye exams and treatments are available to keep your sight sharp
  • Gym memberships. Being in good physical health combats serious issues like high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Low, low premiums

Given all the benefits of Medicare Advantage, it may seem like it’s too good to be true. You may assume such a plan would have significantly higher costs. Expense-wise, you have to have Medicare Part A and Part B before you can join Medicare Advantage. You can’t just buy a Medicare Advantage plan alone, or drop either Part A or Part B to avoid the other premium costs.

The average monthly premium for Medicare Advantage is $21, but you can get a plan with a $0 premium. And for those who have premium-free Medicare Part A, then your only monthly premium will be for Medicare Part B.

The power is in your hands

Medicare Advantage has a diverse set of options, each with its own features that serve to meet a future policyholder’s ideal health insurance policy.

You can get a Health Maintenance Organization plan if you are most comfortable staying in a smaller network of providers and paying lower premiums. There’s also a Preferred Provider Organization plan for people who want more flexibility than HMO plans to go outside of their plan’s network of providers to receive care.

You can also get a plan that combines a high deductible and savings account to help cover your medical costs, known as the Medicare Medical Savings Account plan.

There are Special Needs Plans for those suffering from disabilities. These plans limit their enrollment to specific individuals, but once enrolled in this plan, you will notice how much the plan is tailored specifically to meet your needs.

And, last but not least, you can enroll in a Private-Fee-For-Service plan, which determines how much it will pay your healthcare provider. It will also determine how much you will pay.
